It’s 2019 and This is What I’d Like to See Regarding The Loc’d Community

It’s January 1st, 2019.

It’s a new year full of fresh starts, new beginnings, and do-overs for many of us. The loc’d community is no exception. We, the community, is a beautiful community full of people who decided to embrace more of ourselves the moment we chose to loc our hair. However, it seems to be like finding a needle in a haystack when it comes to representation in the beauty industry and beyond.

Although our beautiful loose naturals are getting the love they deserve, it’s the loc’d community, in my opinion, that still works twice as hard to get that equal amount of love.

What would I like to see more of in 2019?

I would love to see more of our natural hair care brands represent for our loc’d sistahs in brothas. I want to see more ads with people with their beautiful locs, because guess what? We use your products too!

I would love the beauty industry that targets POC to include models with locs on their runways and beauty ads.

In 2019, I would also love to see the misinformed educated on locs and how they are properly maintained because ignorance is a disease that spreads rampantly.

I want to see more maturity take place when one of us decides to cut our locs. What we do with our own hair is our business.

In 2019, I would love to see the loc’d communities come together and establish the foundation for that much-needed representation. Dear Locs, Loc Nation, Men With Locs, I Am Loc’d, and Loc Livin are just a few of the communities that could come together to form a powerful movement. How dope would that be???

I wish for 2019 to be the year when society sees the community for what we truly are. Beautiful souls embracing the extension of ourselves, navigating through life with a newfound sense of self-awareness, growth, and self-love.
